this morning is at 31. new york city is right at 34. boston at the freezing mark. so it's almost like a third of the nation is at the same temperature. upper 20s and low 30s. certainly feels a lot more like winter after a lot of those record-breaking high type of days. you get the cold passing over the relatively warmer water of the lakes. and that's why you have more in traverse city, lake-effect snow. some more too for buffalo and syracuse. part of the system had a little snow. pittsburgh had some accidents but that has all passed. now it's just going to be focused in on lake effect. we have another system to talk about that could bring rain changing over to snow. watch this thing. it's a low pressure system develops off the coast, it will shove moisture up toward the coast and that's why i think an icy mix on tuesday for the big places like new york city, close to d.c., they'll be close to it there, north and west of the city, once you get into the higher elevations, it will be snow. so we'll be watching out for that. and if you want to stay warm and toasty, you have to go to the southwest

it comes to these issues? what is interesting is, recently in boston, they reached their agreement on the teacher's union contract and have been fighting over it for the past two years. their contract the day disagree to in boston is very similar to what is on the table in chicago. -- the agreed to in boston is very similar to what is on the table in chicago. at the end of the day, no kids lost time out of the classroom. we're at the point now where we need to evaluate these educational proposals based on one simple yardstick. will this help a child learn? if the answer is yes, we should be for it. if the answer is no, but we should be against it. what will it take to change the dynamic? the solutions lie in accountability and quality teachers and autonomy. one of the solutions is also apparent choice. the more parents step up and speak out and pressure the system to change, the more than have to respond. the fallacy is that we expect that bureaucracies will reform themselves from within. i do not know about you, but in my spirit, i do not know an example of any bureaucracy -- expe

of college and got a job in my home town of boston at a telephone -- television station. they needed somebody to sweep the floors and i grabbed it right away. i was the lowest form of life and the television station. they were giving the last slice of cake to my cameraman's dog before me. i think that is important in a couple of ways. you get to do everything. when i was doing the low-level job, i was able to observe everything. i was able to watch everything. i think humility is a big part of the news business. we are just reporters. it is another thing that it's anotherin our world as the star system. anger people have become stars. -- anchor people have become stars. you might be less than you think you are going to be at some point, that is actually a good thing. but the yourself in terms of being able to learn everything you can around the. i was watching because they had a radio station. i got to work for them and write to their copy for free in my spare time. my job was enough to pay the rent. my first editorial job, i did not get paid for it. it was a great experience. it turned into
